This rare pair of sculptural plaster lamps is firmly rooted in mid-century design and attributed to the visionary Frances Elkins. Created in the 1950s, the lamps reflect Elkins’ signature style—where neoclassical influences meet sculptural simplicity, and coastal form is reimagined through a refined, modern lens.
The shell-inspired bases speak to Elkins’ pioneering use of plaster in lighting and furnishings. She was among the first to introduce organic motifs into interiors that blended classical restraint with Hollywood Regency elegance. Subtle differences in wiring and hardware suggest these may have been early commissions or prototypes—only adding to their distinctiveness.
Cast in plaster with a hand-applied finish, the lamps have a soft matte texture that diffuses light beautifully. Woven wicker shades sit atop each base, adding warmth and filtering the glow into gentle, dappled shadows that highlight the curves below.
Timeless in palette and sculptural in form, these lamps integrate easily into interiors ranging from French neoclassical and Mediterranean to contemporary and collected spaces. Whether styled on pedestals, bedside tables, or a console, they bring quiet drama and enduring charm.
CONDITION:
Thoughtfully restored. Both lamps retain vintage wiring, with slight variations in hardware suggesting one or both may have been rewired over time—a common characteristic of artisan or prototype pieces. Fully functional and structurally sound, with sculptural detail beautifully preserved.

Scattered Galeries partners with trusted third-party delivery providers to facilitate White Glove Delivery services within the contiguous 48 states. All shipments are handled independently by third-party providers.
The White Glove Delivery Service includes careful transport and in-home placement of furniture. The delivery team will bring the item into the preferred room, unpack it, place it as directed, and remove all packaging materials.
Orders typically ship within 3-6 weeks, though in rare cases, it may take up to 8 weeks to coordinate delivery. A notification will be sent once the item has shipped. This shipping process is designed to accommodate the specialized handling required for vintage and specialty pieces, which is why third-party furniture shippers are used instead of standard carriers like UPS, USPS, or FedEx.
Once the shipper is ready to schedule delivery, they will contact the recipient directly to arrange a date and time frame. Rural deliveries may require additional scheduling time due to limited routes. To prepare for delivery, a clear path should be ensured to the designated room, as the delivery team cannot move or rearrange existing furniture. A signature will be required upon receipt. If the delivery location presents any challenges—such as tight stairways, narrow hallways, or additional obstacles—there may be additional fees.
For details on delivery timelines, potential additional fees, and how to prepare for delivery, please refer to the Shipping Policy or contact support with any questions.
